Series: The Last Son of the Steppe
Captured by Romans, Ildico is promised her people's freedom if she completes one task: kill Attila the Hun. Sent to him as a concubine, she is surprised by the depth of the man behind the fearsome legend. He sees her not as a prize, but as an equal. Her assassination attempt fails, yet Attila's forgiveness and unwavering love win her over. They build a life together, and she gives him a son, a symbol of hope for a new world. But history is cruel. After Attila's shocking death on their wedding night, Ildico is left alone. Branded a traitor by the Romans and a witch by rival Hunnic chieftains, she must flee with her infant son, embarking on a desperate journey through a collapsing world to find a safe haven for the last legacy of the great conqueror.

With Ernak secured to her, Ildico creates a diversion, setting fire to the camp and using the ensuing chaos to escape her tent. A desperate chase through the camp follows, with Valerius realizing her deception and pursuing her himself. He corners her at the muddy, reed-choked bank of the Danube. Forced to fight, Ildico unleashes her long-dormant assassin skills, using the environment and Valerius's own teachings against him. She incapacitates her former mentor rather than killing him, leaving him defeated in the mud. Narration closes the episode as she plunges into the dark, foggy river, carried away by the current: 'He taught me to be a weapon. For my son, I will be whatever I must.'
